Player Development

The Oxford United Development Centre’s are an invitation only environment that is open to players from 6-15.

The aim of the Oxford United Development Centre’s is to recruit the most talented players within the area who are not currently at any Centres of Excellence through our extensive scouting network and our Youth & Community soccer schools program.

The objective of the program is to improve the technical ability of promising young local players through regular coaching and matches against other development centres (matches to be played midweek out of term time)

This will enable them to play and train at a higher level with other players of above average ability and play and train with their local grassroots team at the same time.

Our Coaches are all qualified to a minimum of FA Level 2 with most being Level 3 or above. The coach to player ratio is around 8 to 1.

Enthusiasm, commitment, and dedication are essential qualities for the Development Centre player who wishes to progress to the next level and players will be expected to demonstrate these on a continuous basis. Players that progress on this program will be recommended for trials with our Centre of Excellence.

For the 2011/12 season we are offering an annual program for Elite players that will run from September 2011 through to the end of July 2012. The program will consist of 36 1½ hour coaching sessions at either Oxford Hawks Hockey Club, Banbury Road North , Oxford OX2 8EQ or Horspath Athletics & Sports Ground and 5 coaching/match half term and holiday weeks. Games are played at half term and holiday weeks, home or away against teams such as Arsenal, Aldershot, Brentford, Brighton, Charlton, Coventry , Derby County MK Dons, Northampton , Walsall & Wycombe Wanderers

We also run Player Development Centre’s in Abingdon and Banbury (please see link for more details

For players that are interested and would like to be considered for a place on any of these programs, we ask you to contact us at edev@oufc.co.uk

We will then contact you with a date for you to come and train with us (free of charge) for a couple of sessions to see whether you would like to take up a place and for us to assess if you are suitable for this level of coaching and matches.
