Oxford Get PreparedAfter a weekend with no match Oxford United Ladies had plenty of time to reflect on their 7-1 hammering by Henley Town.  It became even more important they moved on and leant from their mistakes as their very next match was the return Home fixture.

The Oxford girls looked more determined than ever when they took to the field and after a quick pre-match team talk from stand in captain Kath Boardman they got the match underway.
As expected Henley came at Oxford fast, looking for the early break through as they had done two weeks previously, but the midfield four of Becca Corbett and Coleen Ashbee, Steph Barras and Perri Jefferies broke up the play well and harried Henley at every opportunity.

Ashbee Holds Them OffOxfords defence, steadied by the return of Kate Hilsdon at centre back, stood firm and thanks to two goal line clearances from Boardman and one from Rosie Hodgkins, they made it to the break all square.

United started the second half lively, buoyed by a positive first half display, and were constantly looking to hit Henley on the break and they got their reward on 66 minutes when after a neat touch from 2nd half substitute Stacy Coles took out 2 defenders and left Bev Hirons in the clear who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to put United ahead.

Hirons Battles To Get In FrontOxford were delighted, but this optimism was short lived as Henley immediately hit back with a good strike from the edge of the area.  United knew they couldn’t afford to fall asleep again and undo all of their hard work and dug in and saw the game out.

It was an exciting game to watch and a much more impressive display from Oxford who will now look to build on this result against Riverside Strikers on Sunday.
